Sand Helsel

PhD Professor of Architecture, RMIT University.

Sand Helsel  is the Co-Director of International Development, RMIT School of Architecture and Design and Co-Director of postgraduate research stream: “X_ Field: Cross-disciplinary Practice”.

In 2009 Sand completed her PhD by project ‘Search for Common Pleasures: Curating the City’ which challenged the authority of the master plan and the role of the design professional by designing design methods that enable a broader constituency to participate; identifying curation as an alternative to design.

Other research areas include: interdisciplinary practice Asian urban design; micro-urbanism and design-based sustainable practice.
