ARCHIVE

IMAGES : X-Field Exhibition Archive, 2010.   Photo: Marc Mor and Ramesh Ayyar and Kiang How (Elvin) Tan

The archive is a small room adjacent to the main exhibition gallery which captures the spirit of the X_Field project. It documents the discussions of the key participants throughout the exhibition and cites important influences, and past projects as a legacy to the new work. Contributions are included from like-minded Australian practitioners and international collaborators to set the tone for the touring exhibition.

The works utilise a wide range of media: video, photography, audio, drawings, constructions, models, text, and books. All projects are composed of small single images clustered to form adjacencies and slippages with adjacent complementary work. It forces you to get up close and examine, though from afar it reads as a complex diagram of relationships containing gaps or space for speculation –  invitations to add, remove or rearrange.

We summarise our combined practices into five categories in large vinyl lettering on the wall and in the following tabs.  Our differing perspectives and nuances within these fields are noted in the smaller words (listed below) that both describe and provoke. A combined bibliography anchors the project at the base of the room.
